Review

This review applies to version 12.0 The latest version of this software will soon be reviewed by our informers.

StuffIt 12.0.0.17 is a file compression utility for Windows XP, Windows 2000 and Windows Vista.

This utility compresses files into smaller ones, to ease file sending through the Internet.

It can even compress .zip files into even smaller files.

To install the program, it´s not enough to double-click on the .exe file. You´ll need to perform and administrative install from the DOS command box, you´ll need to position in the folder where the executable is, and type its name followed by /a.

The main screen has three tabs, Start, Archives and Search.

Into the Start tab you can access the Tool Center, in which you can create archives and FTP them or send it by email, schedule a backup or make self-extracting archives. You can also use Quick Archives to create archives using different formats (Zip, StuffItX, Lha, Tar, Tar + Gzip, Tar + Bzip2, Tar + Unix Compress, Gzip, Bzip2, Unix Compress, Uuencode, MacBinary, AppleSingle, BinHex, yEncode), specifying the output folder. You can access the Learning Center and the Message Center.

In the Archives tab you can manage all your archived files and decompress them.

With the Search tab you can search your entire system for compressed archives.
Advantages
  • It´s very flexible and easy to use.
Disadvantages
